Sustainability

For an all-round perfect experience, we also pay attention to the topic of sustainability and a resource-conserving approach to the environment. As a leading tourism company in the Salzkammergut, we secure the livelihood of the local population in many areas and are a driving force for tourism development. In this way, we make an important contribution to secure and sustainable jobs. We supply our lifts and cable cars with electricity from renewable energy sources, making the operation of our facilities almost CO2-neutral.

We are clearly committed to sustainable management and ongoing further development. You can find an extract of our measures here.

Sustainable arrival

Our mountain regions are easily accessible by public transport. To promote this aspect, we also offer combined tickets, such as the combi-ticket Traunseetram, which allows you to travel to the Grünberg in comfort by train. In winter, there is also the option of travelling to the ski region Dachstein West free of charge on the ski bus from the surrounding communities.

Another important point for us is e-mobility. We currently offer our guests e-charging stations at our locations Russbach, Annaberg, Dachstein Krippenstein and Feuerkogel. E-charging stations are being planned at our location in Gosau.

Energy

We place a special focus on the use of renewable energy. We are constantly implementing energy optimisation measures and developing projects to generate our own energy at all locations.

At Grünberg, we have installed photovoltaic systems on all the roofs of our buildings. With an output of 70 kilowatt peak and a self-consumption rate of over 80%, we can operate our summer toboggan run independently and also produce electricity for our cable car. Photovoltaic modules have also been integrated into the façade of the Panoramajet mountain station in Dachstein West.

Landscape conservation

Another important activity for sustainable mountain tourism is alpine pasture management and clearing. This refers to the removal of unwanted bushes, shrubs or young trees in order to preserve the alpine pastures.

In addition, all ski slopes are groomed by our employees during the summer months and recultivated if necessary. As a result, a variety of native plant species grow on our piste areas and the soil is protected from erosion.

Sustainable snowmaking

Our ski resorts currently use the latest technologies in the area of snow depth measurement and snow grooming equipment. This ensures environmentally friendly piste preparation and the efficiency of technical snowmaking and only produces the snow that is really necessary for piste operation.

In addition, technical snowmaking is always carried out without the addition of chemicals or other aids.

Initiative "in our nature!"

Bergbahnen Dachstein Salzkammergut are part of the initiative "in unserer natur! oberösterreich". On behalf of the province of Upper Austria, a total of 13 institutions and organisations are committed to constructive dialogue and cooperation in order to create awareness for the conflict-free, sustainable and appreciative use of Upper Austrian natural areas.
